Santa Cruz Opera Project is taking video submissions for our upcoming projects!

Please submit a video with two arias appropriate for the role(s) you are interested in. See more details below.

La Bohème (abridged, in English)

Performances will take place in Summer/Fall 2026. We welcome performers of any gender for all roles.  Mimi and Musetta have been cast (covers will be considered).

The Barber of Seville (abridged, bilingual Spanish/English adaptation)

Performances will take place in April 2026 in Santa Cruz and Watsonville.  All roles open, see character description below:

Rosina (mezzo-soprano or soprano)
A mix of charm, wit, and fire. Must have vocal agility, comic timing, and strong stage presence. Fluency in both Spanish and English required.

Count Almaviva (tenor)
Requires warmth, lyrical singing, and comedic flair, with the ability to shift between sincerity and mischief. Bilingual ability not required for this role.

Figaro (baritone/baritenor)
Strong comedic instincts, physicality, and vocal flexibility. Fluency in both Spanish and English required.

Dr. Bartolo (or Tia Bartolo)  (open to all genders, bass/baritone, or mezzo-soprano)
Rosina’s protective guardian. Comic villain with patter ability and strong character acting.  Preference given to performers fluent in both Spanish and English.

Submission deadline: October 26. Please upload a video link and send it to santacruzoperaproject@gmail.com. Make sure your link is viewable (not set to private) and that the recordings were made within the past year. We do not provide housing for out-of-town singers, so applicants must be local to the Santa Cruz area. All positions are volunteer, with a stipend provided to help cover costs.
